Bio

| The Northeast has been Howard’s home for most of her life with the exception of a few years during her early adolescence when she lived in Arizona. Since 1976 she has lived, worked and raised a family in Amherst, MA. Art has always been an integral part of Marcia’s life. Her mother was a portrait and landscape artist in New York City and Marcia grew up in an environment emphasizing the arts. Her work consists of paper collage designs and landscapes, often made in part from coloraid paper to provide a softer, deeper tone. Appreciation of nature, both the detail and expansiveness, has greatly influenced her art. The years spent in the Southwest left an indelible impression. Trips back to New Mexico and Arizona as well as her experiences her in New England keep bringing new images and perspectives, which form the basis for her collages. Using paper to capture the essence of the subject matter is both intriguing and challenging. Through simplified forms and rich colors and textures, Howard tries to convey the peaceful, powerful, or lyrical quality of the subject. This old art form is now starting a new resurgence in popularity, much to the delight of those artists who have been drawn to this medium. | |||
